NNETESOL sponsors a number of award programs to encourage scholarship and support instruction of English language learners. These programs are open to NNETESOL members only. You can easily become a member by attending a conference.

NNETESOL sponsors the following award programs.

Richard Yorkey Developmental Grant

This award was created in 1998 to honor and remember Dr. Richard Yorkey, a noted author and educator who loyally and actively contributed to Northern New England TESOL for many years. The purpose of this grant is to provide support for professional development, such as a course or courses in the ESL field, to any NNETESOL member who does not get support for professional development from his/her organization. The grant pays up to $800 for one or more grants to eligible individuals. One grant per applicant per year will be awarded. The deadline date to send in an application for this award is October 15th. NNETESOL Mainstream Teacher Award

This award recognizes the many mainstream classroom teachers who contribute to the academic success of English language learners in their schools. Most ELLs are in regular classrooms settings during the school day and rely on the extra effort and support of these teachers to make the class content accessible to them. This award acknowledges teachers' efforts with a certificate and a $50 gift certificate. NNETESOL members can nominate deserving mainstream teachers once a year, by May 31. One teacher from each state is honored at each conference. To nominate a teacher, download a copy of the nomination form.

The recipient will then present the results at a NNETESOL conference and contribute documentation to the NNETESOL archives. The award amount is $500. The applicant must be a member of NNETESOL.
