Today I stumbled across a letter on the TESOL.org website, penned by the Maureen Costello, director of Teaching Tolerance, and Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers.
The letter entreats Donald J. Trump to denounce hate from his bully pulpit. And I am thankful today that TESOL International, NEA, AFT and Southern Poverty Law Center, along with dozens of others, signed on.
I’m so happy that I can be a card-carrying member of organizations that are taking a stand and pushing forward for peace, love and understanding.
Trump’s Thanksgiving message was delivered on Twitter, where he said, “It’s my prayer that on this Thanksgiving we begin to heal our divisions and move forward as one country strengthened by shared purpose and very, very common resolve.”
Let’s hope so.
